INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
As a member of Rotary International, you become more intimately aware of the “international” part of the club when your local club becomes involved in an international project. The Tualatin Rotary Club has had such projects in the past, and is currently involved in one such project in Costa Rica.
ROBLEALTO CHILD CARE MINIBUS PROJECT
The Tualatin Rotary Club has been involved in international projects over the years, and currently is spearheading a project to replace an aging van utilized by the Roblealto Child Care Association with a new Toyota Commuter Minibus The van is used to transport children to medical, dental and orthopedic appointments, recreational activities and to distribute food, materials and equipment to the centers. The new minibus would replace the current van which is in deteriorated condition and is difficult to repair because of the unavailability of spare parts.
The new minibus will cost $29,000, less some small amount from the sale of the old van.
The club’s goal is to accumulate $7,200 through our club and other Rotary clubs which would like to participate, and have that amount matched by a Rotary District 5100 grant. If this occurs, the club would then apply to Rotary International for a 50% matching grant, to bring the total to $25,000. By keeping the total amount below $25,000, the club avoids the heavy competition for grants above $25,000.
